Just being considered worthy of this scholarship in remembering and honoring Scott Impellizeri was an award with in itself. Receiving this scholarship was a chilling blessing and helped me in buying a laptop (I would use all four years of school) and affording books and other miscellaneous freshman college items.
I attended Middle Tennessee State University where I majored in Criminal Justice and minored in Aerospace. I was a member of the Chi Omega fraternity, lived in the house for two years, and was granted alum status after four years of membership. I was able to compete in intermural sports, Step Shows, Habitat for Humanity, and Make A Wish foundation fundraisers through Chi Omega. I was also a member of Women in Aviation where I had the opportunity to make lifelong connections with pilots my age.
During school I got a part time job being a traveling security guard that allowed me to attend and work multiple music festivals and concerts. My last senior of college I got an internship working with domestic violence and sexual assault victims. I was able to work hands on with these survivors since we offered a 24/7 crisis line, and I wrote Orders of Protections and accompanied my clients to court. The best part was that we were non-profit so all services were free to them. Since I’ve graduated I decided that flying has always been a passion of mine and have recently landed a job traveling and flying for an online You Tube series called Fly TV with the purpose of inspiring others to become pilots.
I love the Impellizeri’s and still feel joy to have received such a prestigious award in Scott’s memory. Such a truly wonderful family with great hearts. May this scholarship blossom and continue to inspire young adults towards fulfilling their dreams.
